Adding Schema Markup

Schema in 2018 and How I Add MORE

So it seems like everyone is pushing schema, actually its one particular plugin. I’m sure its great but I personally have had enough success with implementing the codes I’m about to share with you. There is a website that generates video schema. I rather like it but the tool is limited if you don’t sign up and I’m having trouble seeing any email from the signup process.

Incorporating Video Schema in your Website

Video Schema Generator Site

video schema

Simply enter the information on their site from your video, and it will spit out some code for you to paste in on the page you embed your video on. I’ve used it to add more schema to my set of city SEO pages that target different towns near me. Just one of those you can see here.

Stars Schema Code

Here you can see just one of the many towns I’ve got the first couple spots monopolized with my properties. You can also see that my stars are showing up. This wasn’t from the video schema that I just showed you I’ll get to that bit of code in just a minute.

Before you add schema code read this

Use this the updated code, the video schema generator seems to be throwing errors in validation even though I’m pretty sure it didn’t before.

and of course I wouldn’t just update my post without giving you something new and extra. This version of the code is including the schema in the iframe.

<iframe width=”560″ height=”315″ src=”” frameborder=”0″ allowfullscreen>
<div itemprop=”video” itemscope itemtype=””>
<h2>Keyword Video: <span itemprop=”name”>Keyword</span></h2>
<meta itemprop=”duration” content=”1:30″ />
<meta itemprop=”thumbnailUrl” content=”” />
<meta itemprop=”embedURL” content=”” />
<meta itemprop=”uploadDate” content=”2011-07-05T08:00:00+08:00″ />
<span itemprop=”description”>Description of the video</span>

This is the code that the generator site spits out and using the google structured data tool it just gives one error, missing date uploaded. I’ll guessing it would just be a matter of inserting this bit in there as well and adjusting the date .

<meta itemprop=”uploadDate” content=”2011-07-05T08:00:00+08:00″ />

The date needs to be in ISO 8601 format but it can just be the year-month-day like this 2016-02-23.

Ok so now you’ve seen my video schema code lets talk about how to use this bit efficiently. If you look you will see that the embed code, the url, the image thumbnail, etc. etc. they all are using the same bit of code from YouTube. This code right here ‘-NweRGwOOes’ why this is important to see is that you can put this code into your favorite code editor, and find and replace that code with your own video code from YouTube.

Now there are only a few spots to make changes for your own code to work properly.  For your convenience I’ve got those in bold… I know right I’m so nice.

While I like the generator it seems

Schema Markup for Stars in Serps

**Adjusted code now validates 100%**

The code I had here previously had properties for telephone and the address. These don’t pass validation for a Service property so I’ve made the adjustments to fully validate with no errors. The video code above will also validate 100% if the upload date is included in the schema.

<div style=”text-align: center;” itemscope itemtype=””>
<span itemprop=”name”><a hrefs=””>Houts Graphics</a></span>
<div style=”text-align: center;” itemprop=”aggregateRating” itemscope itemtype=””>
<span itemprop=”ratingValue”>5</span> stars –
based on <span itemprop=”reviewCount”>12</span> reviews
<div style=”text-align: center;” >
<span >30802 Sweetwater Circle</span>
<span >Magnolia</span>,
<span >TX</span> <span >94086</span>
<span>(832) 422-7483</span>
<a itemprop=”url” href=”http://domain .com/yourpage/”>domain .com/yourpage/</a>

You already saw above where my stars are showing up in the SERPs. Here’s the code to make that happen. There are also many plugins that can accomplish this I’m actually trying one out to see if it makes life any easier. So the first thing you will see is a link to my Facebook page where my reviews are coming from. Google has stated publicly that they’re cracking down on websites using schema without any aggregate data to back them up. Though I haven’t seen any examples or people talking about faked schema tanking their sites yet.

It is important to use the ‘url’ that your on and wish to have stars for in the code. You can then adjust the rating and review count for your specific rating and amount of reviews. I also just added the telephone schema after seeing someone point it out in the serps. So that should begin to show up shortly as well.

Above you see what the code actually looks like on my site.  I have it at the bottom of the pages I wish to have the stars showing for.

Stars Schema Code

Hope you’ve enjoyed this and can now implement schema into your own sites. Watch the results of my DJ site case study to see the effect schema will have on it as well. I placed schema in that site just today (2/24/2016), the on site and content being updated has just started to take effect as well. It is now on page 4 for one term. I’m expecting the schema to give it a huge boost. Keep up and find out.
